This session will focus on the integration of automated road transport in logistics and multimodal operations, featuring experiences from projects MULTIRELOAD, FOR-FREIGHT, as well as the features of newly launched project AUTOSUP. Representatives from these projects will provide brief introduction of their projects and participate in a panel to discuss key challenges and considerations in integrating automation in logistics and intermodal operations. The panel will also address expected results and experiences in the context of road transport automation and its integration into intermodal chains.

Testing of automated vehicles is nothing but new. However, the value of automation lays in its application in everyday business operations and can bring lots of value especially to logistics where lots of challenges such as the driver shortage and the continuous increase in demand for goods transported are projected. This panel will discuss opportunities and challenges of AVs in logistics but also examples of Automation already in operation.

This session will present the current EU regulation on automated vehicles, detailing the hub-to-hub use case and further regulatory actions under preparation. A panel discussion with representatives from 2-3 projects, such as AWARD and MODI, will follow. They will explain their experience with the implementation of EU regulation 2022/1426 on type-approval of automated driving systems (ADS) or fully automated vehicles, discuss additional use cases to be incorporated in future regulation revisions, and address other regulatory needs for deploying automated vehicles in the logistics sector, including remote driving operations.
